About the Book

Trabajo de investigación de la Arquitecta Lérida Inés Torres Manso, donde comienza con una compilación de la coctelería en Cuba, diferenciándolos por tipos, según la ocasión en que se degusten. Se describen más de 100 cocteles cubanos.
Cuba jugó un importantísimo papel en el desarrollo de la coctelería. Cuando la época de la ley seca en los EE.UU., los americanos viajaban a Cuba en búsqueda del consumo de alcohol y los bares cubanos, fundamentalmente habaneros. Desarrollaron la creatividad en la elaboración de cócteles. Ernest Hemingway, famoso escritor estadounidense disfrutaba del Mojito en la Bodeguita del Medio y el Daiquirí en EL Floridita Bar, ambos bares, famosos en la Habana de la Cuba republicana. Existen numerosos cocteles cubanos de fama internacional.
Aunque la historia de la coctelería no se conoce de forma auténtica y no podemos asegurar cuál es su procedencia, los orígenes documentados de la coctelería se alejan mucho a como la conocemos a día de hoy. Lo que se sigue manteniendo en el tiempo es la definición de cóctel, siendo esta: "bebida compuesta de una mezcla de licores a la que se añaden por lo común otros ingredientes".
La coctelería nació como remedio exclusivamente terapéutico y tuvo su origen en los monjes. El honor de haber creado lo que hoy en día conocemos como "coctelería" se le debe a la orden Benedictina del siglo XVI. Estos elaboraban aguardientes de hierbas con fines medicinales. Este fue establecido como el inicio de la historia de la coctelería. Los cócteles, tal como los conocemos hoy, se originaron en América a principios del siglo XIX. El primer cóctel conocido fue el Old Fashioned, que se servía en el Pendennis Club en Kentucky en 1881. Durante este período, los cócteles se popularizaron en América y se convirtieron en una forma popular de consumir bebidas alcohólicas.
Además de un poco de historia, se describe el proceso del ron y los tipos de bebidas alcohólicas. Este tema es bien amplio e imposible de abarcar en su totalidad, esperamos que el lector se deleite y aumente sus conocimientos sobre el apasionante arte de la coctelería.
