Il Consolidated B-24 Liberator era un bombardiere pesante quadrimotore ad ala medio-alta (adottò un tipo di ala conosciuto come ala Davis, stretta e allungata, che divenne una sua caratteristica distintiva insieme alla doppia deriva di forma ovale). Il Liberator è stato uno dei bombardieri americani più importanti. Terminò la guerra come l'aereo da guerra statunitense costruito nel maggior numero di esemplari nella storia; ne vennero costruiti, infatti, più di 18.000 esemplari. Era, assieme al B-17 Flying Fortress, il bombardiere di punta dell'United States Army Air Force.Il North American B-25 Mitchell era un bombardiere medio bimotore costruito dalla North American e impiegato principalmente dall'USAAF durante la Seconda guerra mondiale. Il B 25 Mitchell della North American formò insieme al Douglas A 20 Havoc ed al Martin B 26 Marauder, la spina dorsale delle unità operative di appoggio dell' USAAF durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Il Mitchell, in particolare, risultò un velivolo versatile che si attirò subito la popolarità. Anche se non aveva pesante carico offensivo, il suo armamento con un pezzo di artiglieria pesante, buono per scopi sia offensivi che difensivi, fu particolarmente temuto dai piloti tedeschi, italiani e giapponesi.Il Martin B-26 Marauder (Predone) era un bimotore statunitense da bombardamento della seconda guerra mondiale prodotto dalla Glenn L. Martin Company. Fu il primo bombardiere medio impiegato dagli Usa nella guerra del Pacifico all'inizio del 1942. Operò anche sul Mediterraneo e sul fronte dell'Europa occidentale. Subito dopo la sua entrata in servizio si guadagnò il soprannome di "Fabbrica di vedove" a causa dell'alta percentuale di incidenti, soprattutto in decollo e in atterraggio. Il Marauder doveva essere pilotato rispettando accuratamente le velocità limite stabilite dal manuale di volo, soprattutto in avvicinamento alla pista e quando un motore era fuori uso. L'elevata velocità da mantenere subito prima dell'atterraggio (150 miglia all'ora - 241 km/h) intimidiva i piloti, abituati a velocità assai più basse, ma se istintivamente rallentavano, l'aereo immediatamente stallava e si schiantava al suolo.
