Victor Petit n'a pas encore 20 ans quand les Allemands envahissent la France. Diplômé de l'Ecole Nationale Professionnelle d'Armentières en juillet 1938, il fabrique des pièces d'avion chez Breguet Aviation à Vélizy-Villacoublay quand l'usine est menacée et qu'il reçoit l'ordre de détruire une partie du matériel et évacuer les prorotypes du Be 482. Il traverse avec des camarades la France à vélo pour rejoindre Anglet puis l'Angleterre. Le navire est détourné et accoste finalement au Maroc. Suivant le convoi Breguet, Victor gagne l'Algérie par voie ferrée. Sur place commence pour lui la vie d'expatrié. Il trouve rapidement du travail avant que les chantiers de jeunesse puis le débarquement de novembre 42 ne le poussent à s'engager dans l'armée de l'air et à se porter volontaire pour former les rangs du tout jeune 1er RCP. Entraînement, brevet de parachutiste et Cherchell le mèneront à un court passage au SR du BCRA puis à retrouver le régiment en Sicile. Blessé au cours des durs combats des Vosges d'octobre 44, sa convalescence s'achèvera à l'hôpital Bellan à Paris.
About the Author: Né au Touquet en 1920, Victor Petit sort diplômé de l'Ecole Professionnelle d'Armentières en 1938. Employé par Breguet Aviation à Vélizy-Villacoublay pendant la débâcle de mai et juin 40, il se retrouve malgré lui en Afrique du Nord, où il continue à travailler dans la fabrication de pièces diverses. Décidé à rejoindre la lutte pour libérer la France, il s'engage dans l'armée de l'air et participe à la création du 1er RCP. Breveté parachutiste, il est envoyé suivre les cours des élèves officiers à Cherchell et sort avec le grade d'aspirant. Avec le régiment, il s'entraîne en Sicile puis remonte l'Italie avant de connaître son baptême du feu dans les Vosges, combats durant lesquels il sera blessé. Evacué, il est soigné à Paris puis démobilisé. De retour à la vie civile, il travaille chez Caudron-Renault en région parisienne avant de rejoindre les services techniques d'une sucrerie dans la Somme. Retraité, il s'installe en Touraine et prend une part active dans le milieu associatif des anciens combattants. Médaillé militaire et titulaire de la Croix de Guerre 39-45 avec une palme, il est décédé en 2006.
