About the Book

Raúl Eduardo Chao was Secretary General of the Cuban Catholic Student Youth at the Universities of Havana and Villanueva. In exile, he received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. He worked several years with Esso Research and Engineering Company and served as Full Professor and Director of Chemical Engineering at the Universities of Puerto Rico and Detroit, and as consultant in the Propulsion and Power division of NASA's Johnson Space Center. In 1986, he founded a consulting firm focused on improving workplace environments and productivity for businesses and government agencies, with Fortune 100 clients and state organizations in the US, Europe, and Latin America. Chao has authored over 30 books on management, politics, science, and Cuban history, along with numerous articles. Since 1985, he's been listed in Who is Who in Engineering and American Men of Science.

By 1845, Thomas Jefferson had died, leaving Monticello in ruins. New York expanded to 115th Street, rife with corruption. Cuban-born Miguel de Aldama sought refuge in the city, fraternizing with the Vanderbilts, Astors, and Belmonts. He offered $100 million to buy Cuba but, receiving no answer, became the main benefactor of the Ten Years' War, dedicating his assets to Cuba's independence. This historical novel recounts the failed independence attempt, the generosity of those who sacrificed for an ideal, and the final victory in the 1898 war that brought Cuba its freedom.
