Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Ethnologie / Volkskunde, Note: 2,0, Universität Augsburg (Lehrstuhl Volkskunde), Veranstaltung: Die Reichsstadt im Mittelalter, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Jahre von 1150 bis 1250 waren die entscheidenden in der Entwicklung der mittelalterlichen europäischen Städte und ihre Institutionen blieben bis in die Neuzeit ohne grundlegende Änderungen bestehen . In Italien bildeten sich Kommunen mit mehr Bürokratie als in den anderen europäischen Ländern.Die oberitalienische Region war neben Unteritalien, der Provence und Katalonien am offensten für Einflüsse aus der arabischen und der byzantinischen Welt.In Oberitalien ist die Kommune die Spitze einer Entwicklung, die schon in der fränkischen Zeit begann . Im Gegensatz zu Gallien, wo sich die Stadt im 3. und 4. Jahrhundert auf eine Zitadelle reduzierte, wurde die italienische Stadt von einer Mauer umgeben . In Gallien zog infolge dieser Entwicklung der Adel auf das Land und in Italien blieb die Aristokratie in der Stadt sesshaft . Die Mauer war im römischen Rechtsdenken heilig und dies kam auch in der Sage vom Sprung des Remus über die Stadtmauer zum Ausdruck . Das städtische Umland, der comitatus, wurde oft von der Kommune unterworfen und es hatte auch keine Teilhaberechte an der Kommune.In der weiteren Entwicklung konnte sich der ländlich orientierte Lehnsadel zwischen die bischöflichen und städtischen Strukturen schieben und eine innere Stabilität erreichen . In der Fachwelt gilt frühestens die Zeit der karolingischen Machtergreifung als die Geburtsstunde der Entstehung der Kommune . Während dieses Werdevorgangs des mittelalterlichen Stadt in Oberitalien standen diese in engstem politischen Kontakt mit Deutschland.Der Begriff Stadt bedeutete in Italien civitas, die der Mittelpunkt des umliegenden Territoriums war, das mit der Christianisierung zum Bischofssitz wurde .
