About the Author: J. K. Cathmey is a children's story book author who is motivated by her love of animals, and the depth of beauty she sees in every part of nature. She loves sharing her joy of discovering life, and her love of animals, with children through her stories.
As a little girl, some of her most favourite pass-times was being with her pet cat or dog, or any other animal in the district she could gain access to. This also fuelled her other of passions, such as drawing animals, and writing animal stories. Wherever she went, if there was an animal, she would make every effort to befriend it. Whether it was a cat, dog, lizard, horse, duck, wallaby, or any other species in the animal kingdom, it would not go unnoticed, or untouched!
Her imagination would always take her into a magical realm of being able to talk with all the animals she met. She had a secret magical world within her highly imaginative mind where her animal friends would discuss their lives, and share their perspective of the world with her. This ended up creating a lifelong love of every animal and plant, and a true fascination with how incredible they all truly are.
Her most vivid memories of school were her creating quirky animal stories filled with playful, mischievous animals characters. She would also find any opportunity to draw yet another animal.
However, after leaving school she had an extended detour away from her true passions, and pursued a career in the corporate business world, ...thinking "that was the right thing to do!". After a couple of decades, she finally rediscovered her own truths (with the truly wonderful help of her extremely special husband and son), and returned to the wonderful world her true passions.
Her journey back to her love of drawing and writing stories was a serendipitous series of chance events that led her to the opportunity to write and illustrate children's story books. Now doing what she loves has become her gateway to sharing her love of life with children.
