About the Book

The Battle at Stilted Village is Ukiah Scott's own dystopian world full of horrors, zombies, and unlikely companions.

"The people in the Stilted Village are battle hardened, always looking out for each other, always running together to any fight. Always ready to do battle. Be it night or day... this beast presented something new. It was intelligent, conniving, with a hunger vast enough to eat them all."

Stilted Village is built on old telephone poles to raise the entire place above the heads of the zombies. This allows the people to use spears as their main weapon to dispatch any zombie that wanders under their village... until they are attacked by a giant rhinoceros that wants to pull the village down and consume all that call the Stilts home.

Helga was a loving mother to her two young sons, and wife to her amazing husband Charles. Her three reasons for living were eaten by a massive grizzly- like zombie, and escaped from the monster after her husband sacrificed himself to save her. She found her way to the Stilted Village. She is a dangerous scout, an accomplished sniper, and has a reputation that proceeds her as one of the toughest and most ruthless fighters that the zombies do not want anything to do with her.

Garan was a professional ballet dancer; who's hard work and expertise has landed him the lead character in every show since he was a young boy. He is strong, protective, and does not hesitate to take care of his kid-brother or others that need his help.

Fechin has been fully cross-eyed since birth. His mother (a neurologist) and father (a neurosurgeon) took him to the best doctors of their time to surgically help him to no longer be completely cross-eyes. The surgeries were successful in helping restore his vision to a greater degree, but not able to fully restore his vision.

Teddy is the leader of the Stilted Village. With his second in command, Rex, they help and take care of their people. Teddy is shrewd, calculating, and is not one to stand down from anything. He is always at the frontlines when the zombies attack.

Rex is a conniving, backstabbing, uncaring rat that has to be watched 24/7, likes to meddle and slow operations down to get any advantage over Teddy that he can.

Faidh is a bit of a mystery. She is demure, sweet, helps to take care of the fallen or the deceased, a great comfort to have at the Stilts, and the most powerful and strongest fiery redhead that takes care of her people and they take exceptional care of her. She carries no weapons in a world filled with zombies because the blacksmith has cut her off after destroying every weapon made for her beyond repair. She has broken several mosin-nagants over and through zombies when she has run out of ammunition.

Cawthra is the original survivor that has traveled extensively to find a way out of Las Vegas and rejoin his family in northern Nevada. That is where the military was directed to take all the first responders, including the police, firefighters, hospital staff, first, and then to gather the remaining survivors, their families, and anyone else still alive in large military convoys.

Masaru is their medical genius when herbs and natural remidies are needed to help heal the sick, cuts, wounds, the mind and chi. He nursed Faidh back to health when no amount of impure medicine could have saved her life.

There are many other characters in this book that have their place in the Stilted Village. Every woman and man has proven their mettle time and time again. Their ability to set aside their old ways, lives, and loved ones is a testament to their loyalty and dedication to their cause. To keep each other alive, healthy, with enough food and clean water for everyone, enough weapons and ammo, and for everyone to do their part no matter how hard or small the tasks may be.
