About the Book

The seasons in the Piedmont of North Carolina have rhythms that are unique to that place alone. The growing season, where early springs meld into long summers, is greatly extended compared to the North, where I come from; you have a longer time to interact with the birds, butterflies, insects and green plants, becoming more intimately acquainted. Since autumn arrives late -again as compared to the North- and winter makes an abbreviated appearance they are seasons to be treasured. I lived in a rural area outside of Mocksville, NC; the inspirations and settings for all of these poems came from my travels along Bear Creek Church Road and Log Cabin Road as well as within my own garden. These poems prove that there are always songs to be chronicled, no matter where you live, if only you open your eyes and ears to the world surrounding you. These are my poems of love to the nature that surrounded me there.
About the Author: Syndi Witte Holmes was born in Akron, Ohio to Hubert Witte, an English and history teacher whose ancestors were early settlers in America and Georgia Djurisich Witte, whose parents were Serbian emigrants. Georgia grew up in the coal mining camps of West Virginia where her father worked as a coal miner. These life influences deeply impact Syndi's writing as does her Celtic heritage that makes her very aware of the role and traditions that the ancient bards played in everyday life. Syndi has been writing poetry since her teens but as a single working mother of four sons she did not have time to consider publishing her work until now. She has lived in Minnesota, North Carolina and Maine, and worked as an RN for 28 years until being diagnosed with cancer two years ago. Recently returned to university she studies at the University of Southern Maine. She lives with her three pups known as "the girls" and two cats in the Kennebec Valley of central Maine.
