About the Book

When Varian Pike is offered a sketchy job for too much money, the results are predictable and catastrophic: He puts a new friend in danger and old enemies are out to get him. Beat Bop is a wild and bumpy ride from Wall Street to Pacific Street for Pike and his unlikely new partner, a doo-wop singing Walt Whitman quoting member of the Vagabond Jesters, Pike has to outrun gangsters, cops and a gang of Cobras. The result: dead bodies scattered all over southern New England and consequences he will never shake.
About the Author: Jack DeWitt is a poet, a chronicler of car culture and a novelist. He has written three Varian Pike mysteries: Delicious Little Traitor, Beat Bop and Hoochie Coochie Man all published by his Cold Chair Books. His essay on the American hot rod was selected as one of the notable essays of 2009 in The Best American Essays 2010, edited by Christopher Hitchens and Robert Atwan. His Cool Cars, High Art: The Rise of Kustom Kulture (2003) was a Streetrodder Hall of Fame selection. A section of the book was reprinted in the Hot Rod Reader.
