The Dearborns are a family in crisis. Husband Edward is an alcoholic-a serial cheater more in love with his BMW than his wife Madeline. Their son Francis lives with repulsive acne that draws scorn and disgust from all who meet him.
And then there's Miranda. Terrified of the power of her own beauty, Miranda is agoraphobic, living a life of self-imposed exile in her bedroom. Her only contact with the outside world comes from the house's intercom system, the pneumatic tubes that deliver her food, and her window.
When new neighbors move in, Miranda gets a glimpse of Joseph, a stunning man who strangely moves her. She also sees Anna, a woman as beautiful as the young agoraphobe. But while Miranda hides her beauty away from the world, Anna wields hers like a weapon to conquer everyone she meets-including Edward Dearborn. Her only real love, however, is Joseph.
