About the Book

Children's book that is appealing to adults as well. Lily Belle wants to have a garden without the interference of the bees. What' she doesn't understand is that without the bees, the wasps and the delicate balance of nature she can't have what she wants. With the support and assistance of her parents she learns how bees, wasps and insects all work together to keep the world producing and growing. It's a tale of friendship, family, community as they use the local library to find out what is wrong with Lilly Belle's garden. It's a tale of not always getting your own way and of compromise. Sometimes you need to learn and grow in order for your garden to grow. There is additional helpful information at the story's end with guided instructions for making your own hornet/wasp house to give these important insects a home of their own safely away from yours!
About the Author: Lauren Roy lives on a small farm in Central Massachusetts. In an effort to bring a better understanding of the environment and communal responsibility Mrs Roy has offered workshops for all ages on her farm often inviting local and state experts in environmental responsibilities. She has also volunteered at the local schools bringing her stories and games in order to invest the children in the care of the planet. She feels that because it will be the responsibility of these kids to clean up and try and reverse the destruction of the planet it is important to start with the most important and basic of links in the chain of a healthy environment, the bees. Mrs. Roy believes that fear of insects and a mis understanding of the very important roles they play in the world drives our belief that its alright to do away with them. She hopes that by educating people she will help alleviate their fears and give them a greater knowledge on just HOW vital they are. There's long been a belief that they are in OUR yard, the truth is we are in THEIR space and just like learning to live with each other and wildlife, we need to respect the rights of insects. The role they play is in direct correlation to our ability to feed ourselves
