Examensarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Medizin - Chirurgie, Unfallmedizin, Note: 1,7, Universität Rostock (IPPM), Veranstaltung: Sportmedizin, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Mountainbiken war 1996 erstmalig als CrossCountry (CC)-Rennen bei Olympia vertreten und ist seit 2000 -aufgegliedert in einzelne Wettkampfskategorien- als olympische Sportart etabliert. Schon damals im Jahr 1996 bei Olympia, war der Mountainbikesport mehr als nur ein cooler Trendsport für ein paar Freaks, sondern ein ernstzunehmender Wettkampf. Bereits 1998 hatte der Mountainbikesport seine aktiven Anhänger von 2,6 Millionen (1). Nach Angaben vom Zweirad Industrie Verband gibt es 69 Millionen Fahrräder derzeit in Deutschland. Beim Vergleich der Verkaufszahlen und der Verteilung der Fahrradmodelle von 2009, werden den Mountainbikes 11 % Marktanteil zugeordnet. In Anbetracht dessen, müsste es demzufolge 7,59 Millionen Mountainbikes in Deutschland geben. Da nach Auskunft des Statistischen Bundesamtes 81,8 Millionen Menschen in Deutschland leben, besitzt theoretischerweise mindestens jeder 10. ein Mountainbikefahrrad. Am 31. August 2011 eröffnete die 20. Eurobike - the global show ihre Tore und präsentiert die aktuellsten Trends der Fahrradszene. 1991 eröffnete sie erstmals unter dem Namen Mountainbikemesse mit 268 Firmen. Nun, 20 Jahre später, werden 1.180 Aussteller ihre Produkte (Fahrräder sämtlicher Kategorie und Zubehör) dem (Fach-) Publikum präsentieren. Laut den ersten Presseberichten werden Mountainbikes mit Hybridtechnologie, "Megatrend 29" (MTB mit 29"-Zoll Bereifung) und weitere Neuerungen zu sehen sein. Aufgrund der Vielseitigkeit und Unterschiede der einzelnen Disziplinen und Untergruppierungen des Mountainbikesports - CrossCountry (CC/XC), Downhill (DH), DualSlalom (DS), Fourcross (4X), Freeride (FR) und Dirt - hält diese Sportart, den Sporttreibenden nicht nur fit, sondern bietet auch Thrill, Abenteuer und Natur.
