About the Book

"The first principle [of science] is that you must not fool yourself, and you are the easiest person to fool." Richard P. Feynman This practical guide will teach you how to use Blind Analysis with Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology, so you can avoid fooling yourself. Written for engineers and scientists who are familiar with Design of Experiments and JMP software, it is the first to cover the Blind Analysis aspect of DOE, which prevents the inadvertent bias-even your own-that can sometimes crop up in data analysis. Those new to the techniques will appreciate the brief introduction to Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology. You can then dive into the technical details behind Blind Analysis, including Triple Blind Studies. Three thorough examples complete the lesson, clearly demonstrating how to incorporate Blind Analysis into DOE/RSM, using the JMP software package. Support materials are available online with data for the JMP examples, examples worked in Minitab, and data for the Minitab examples. Blind Analysis in Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology will prepare you to apply its powerful techniques to your work right away. Human nature is geared toward finding what we are looking for, instead of what's actually there. Add Blind Analysis to your toolbox, and you'll avoid fooling yourself, in your experiments.
About the Author: William D. (Bill) Kappele founded Objective Experiments in 1998 as Math Options Inc. As lead instructor, Bill develops workshops and supplementary software and answers technical questions. He also consults with clients. Bill is a chemist with over 25 years experience using Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology, both as a researcher and a teacher. He first encountered DOE/RSM at the beginning of his career at Hewlett Packard, where he was responsible for the design and development of thermal inkjet inks. He has 14 US patents. Bill learned DOE/RSM from pioneer Dave Doehlert. A lifelong learner and born teacher, Bill has seen the powerful advantage that DOE/RSM training has given each of his students, from chemists and engineers who convert theories into real-life products, to researchers who no longer rely on luck to produce results on time and within budget. Bill draws on his depth of experience for real-life examples to bring context to complex concepts.
