Il y a trente ans, l'analogie avec la Revolution francaise fut a l'origine d'une philosophie sovietique de l'Histoire qui rejeta 1789 au nom de 1917: posee en annee zero, la revolution d'Octobre ouvrit la voie au communisme en surpassant ainsi toutes les revolutions precedentes. A l'heure du centenaire de la revolution de 1917, on reconnait toujours officiellement en Russie que cette derniere fut un des grands evenements du XXe siecle, mais avec la renaissance des conservatismes et des nationalismes, sa grandeur est reinterpretee: La transformation revolutionnaire aurait initie un projet global de civilisations. Sans ceder la premiere place a l'universalisme de la Revolution francaise, la primaute de la revolution russe est reaffirmee comme projet concurrentiel pour le devenir du monde. Ce livre se propose de montrer comment la Revolution francaise, en tant que reference majeure des revolutionnaires russes tout au long du XIXe siecle, a pese sur les consciences et l'action historique; comment une proliferation d'analogies s'est emparee, apres 1917, de l'imaginaire social autour de questions brulantes: Lenine est-il un nouveau Robespierre ? Faut-il trouver en Bonaparte un modele pour Staline ? Un Thermidor sovietique a-t-il deja eu lieu ? Le travail mene ici rend ainsi compte des repercussions qu'a eues l'imaginaire dans la prise de deux decisions cles de l'histoire sovietique - l'instauration de la nouvelle politique economique en 1921 pensee comme une autothermidorisation par Lenine et son abandon en 1928 pense par Staline comme une mesure preventive contre Thermidor. Les pieces du dossier russe et sovietique reunies dans ce livre peuvent donc se lire aujourd'hui comme un ensemble matriciel pour des passions et debats qui rebondissent apres 1991 et la chute de l'URSS.
About the Author: Tamara Kondratieva is a professor of contemporary history at Universite de Valenciennes and a lecturer at the EHESS. She is the author of Bolcheviks et Jacobins (1989), La Russie ancienne (1998) and of Le Paroxysme du regime sovietique (2008). Her book Gouverner et nourrir (2002) was published by Les Belles Lettres.
