De bomba y de bombeadores: Un acercamiento a la tradición de bomba en Cataño consta de siete capítulos. El primero, El pueblo que se negó a morir, es una historia breve del pueblo desde los inicios de la colonización; pasando por los momentos en que Cataño fue barrio de Palo Seco, Guaynabo y Bayamón; hasta convertirse en municipio en 1927. Hay un breve recorrido por las costumbres y tradiciones del lugar como el cantar décimas, el uso de refranes, tocar y cantar plenas, la celebración de las Fiestas Patronales, los Rosarios a la Santa Cruz, el Día de los Reyes Magos, el baquiné y los bailes de bomba. El segundo, Yambutéalo e' papá. Yambutéalo, Yambatí, explica el uso de la expresión "canto de bomba" y sus antecedentes africanos. Expone los usos antiguos del canto, su acompañamiento con tambores, a los que se les añade la maraca, el cuá o patá. Establece que el baile de bomba es una simbiosis del canto, toque y baile. Además, es el recuento de hechos humanos provocadores de catarsis. El tercero, Yo oí una voz..., trata de los diversos propósitos subyacentes en los cantos de bomba como recordar a personas ausentes, difuntos y grandes bailadores y bailadoras considerados importantes para la comunidad. Analiza cómo a través de los cantos se establecían códigos de justicia y moral, se aconsejaba y consolaba. Contiene una buena muestra de cantos catañeses con análisis de las historias contenidas en ellos. También, habla del orden de los cantos dentro de la celebración del baile, entre ellos: cantos de bienvenida, de invitación, de elogios, de "puya" y de despedida. El cuarto, Dice negro Congo: Yo va a la maniguá, presenta aspectos de la ejecución de los cantos de bomba como la transmisión oral, el anonimato, la ejecución responsorial, la improvisación, la repetición, el uso de pie forzado, la moraleja, la rima y la voz. El quinto, ¡Ay, Macuyita, sube a la bomba vaporadora!, describe los bailes de bomba de Cataño. Presenta los tres momentos más recordados e importantes de estos bailes: los tiempos de la casona de La Machén, los tiempos del tablero de Dominguito Negrón y los tiempos finales de la bomba en Cataño, después de la muerte de Dominguito. Habla sobre el uso de tres tambores, la maraca y los palitos; su disposición en el tablero y la nomenclatura propia del género. Hay una descripción de cómo se colocaban los tocadores, cantadores y cantadoras, bailadores, bailadoras y tocadores, de cómo se ejecutaban los bailes y cuáles eran sus significados. El sexto, Cunyá e' le mué, cunyá prieto, es un catálogo de nombres y características de aquellos afrodescendientes del lugar y zonas adyacentes, los cuales aportaron y participaron en los bailes de bomba. Muchos de ellos fueron trabajadores de la caña en la zona y trabajadores de los muelles. Las mujeres, que en su mayoría eran costureras y obreras del hogar, aportaron grandemente al género, mayormente, en el canto y en el baile. El séptimo y último capítulo, Belén, belén; éste es el último belén, sirve de resumen y cierre. Presenta análisis, conclusiones generales, observaciones y comentarios donde se redondean las ideas contenidas en el escrito. El lenguaje del texto es sencillo y claro para facilitar la comprensión del lector. Es una herramienta muy útil para el estudio de la tradición del baile de bomba de la zona norte de Puerto Rico.
