About the Book
The Book of Nice Monsters: A Few Scurrilous Drawings features some of the artwork I did in my early teens and twenties. Most of these were originally pencil sketches, later on I added in pen/ink and color. A lot of these were done with simple Bic pens, as I didn't have a lot of money. These pieces represent a modernistic variety of Native American art styles, including Northwest Coast, Southwest regional and East Coast styles. I'm Cherokee and other Trail of Tears tribes, among other things. So these drawings reflect my Indian cultural tendencies. And also American influences including Black pop and jazz, and individual European and American artists such as Jules Feiffer, Georgia O'Keeffe, Miro, Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt, and of course my main inspiration for these fantasy works, Dr. Seuss. I did dozens of drawings over the years, during my most creative periods of time such as puberty and adolescence. And I lost my very best artwork due to my kids scrawling on them, a thief who stole them in order to sell them as cheap tattoos, and from age, time and yellowing problems. A few of the good ones remained, so I compiled them into this Dr. Seuss tribute book and got them published. The book so far has been an Amazon best seller, ever since it was first published in 2016. It was #1 for quite a while under the keywords Native American, Native American art and Native American art history. Please enjoy my original and inventive fantasy art pieces.
