About the Book

These are poems I've created and finished in a short time period. My Booklet of Poetry was a compilation of poems written over 20 years. This Booklet of Poetry 11 took 20 days! Feel like Jimi Hendrix creating Purple Haze! Most were started from the top, some were incomplete works from different time periods. Regardless I was obviously inspired by the results of my first book. I feel very comfortable expressing myself in the poem format and believe me I'm not an ordinary doormat. I've been doing this for years and now I have to say cheers! I write about personal things that brings truth and happiness with a minimum of sappiness. Relationships;women and men; then again it's also about drink and loneliness and of emptiness. All are life struggles for a man in his fifties living in New York City. That's my palate and it's easy for me to sell it. Everyone is interested in Manhattan and to have that as my backdrop in unlikely for me to have a flop atop the Empire State Building. Ha, Ha! That was off the grid so you can call me Sid the Kid. Not really but Malik Sealey played for St. Johns and that's in Queens so by no means do I confine this to one borough. I worked in the Bronx and now I do the same in Queens and by any means I wouldn't forget Brooklyn and Staten Island where I've been over and over again; albeit years apart. But this is a good start to say everything is in play as I go on hiatus until May. Strike that, it just sounded good and that's an important quality when writing prose. I have a nose for rhythm because I'm also an actor and that's a factor when I go over and act which is a fact in making it right. This is very contemporary, it's exemplary and in the norm of this day and age I do think I'm a sage and I can go page and page with a certain rage making you understand that I'm the man for this book. Otherwise a crook could be a giant rook in a bad chess game who could put the blame on me and declare this a catastrophe! Anything goes and my poetry shows this aspect. Finishing this abstract forget about what I lack and attack this book with vim and vinegar and swear to her or him that one of my poems did you in. It may have burst your gut or got you out of a rut or gave you the feeling to strut with your mutt on the icy streets of the Big Apple bypassing the Snapple because it contains too much sugar. Remember, you may start in one place but give yourself space to let this take you on a groove and move if necessary. This is a history of me, can't you see? Answer my plea by buying this menagerie of words and stories all told on one page. This one happens to have twenty two so be cool, grab that proverbial stool and enjoy this mental toy that was created for the little boy or girl inside of you.
About the Author: I am Dave Sweeney (Gold) and let it be told that I am an illegitimate poet. I say this because I was born out of wedlock in pursuing this endeavor. I would never disrespect this process but some might think I've been held hostage by the signs of the times. But really I've gotten here legitimately committing no crimes! I've taken a non-traditional path but everything has been achieved first hand on the job. Verbal poetry or rap has bridge the gap between me and the urban infantry of the inner city. They are not to be pitied but should be recognized for being organic and true blue. I've taught many youngsters in the schools of East Los Angeles, the South Bronx and Manhattan, not to mention all the other sections of each of these glorious cities and it's suburbs. I've had the time to listen and glisten and to be in position to deal with a lot of their crap which is mind boggling to the outsider. But to this resident I've had the pride to take their side in the human struggle. Much of what comes out has been the result of this bout of many years overcoming fears and jeers and yes, cheers and great careers that shows that these kids don't deserve low blows coming from those who are not in the know. So tying it together I only had the weather to deal with in creating this book when for many years there was always a crook who took something that didn't belong to him or her. I had to deal with repressed fear but I really did care and to this I say, Here! Here! I've written 27 one acts and a screenplay which to this day is on Amazon. Just dial up books with my name included of course. Dave Sweeney! Now I have 2 books of poems making up 75. That ain't no jive! Don't call me Clive cuz I'm alive and I will continue to strive in this endeavor forever and ever continuing to be clever pulling that lever that will never sever by relationship with you. Just go on Amazon and enjoy! You will as long as you line up behind this boy! Me. Dave Sweeney
