About the Book

BIG JOE FLYNN During the spring of 1946, from the streets of Boston, came the greatest baseball prospect ever to play the game. That was the year he first became eligible to sign with a major league team and every team in baseball was vying for his services. When he finally signed with Tom Yawkey and the Boston Red Sox every fan in New England went delirious with joy and anticipation. Against the wishes of both players and fans, Big Joe was sent to the Red Sox minor league affiliate, the Louisville Colonels where he proceeded to break every hitting and home run record in that league. While there, he met and fell in love with a beautiful nurse, named Anna Sullivan, who had just returned to Kentucky from the war. She became the love of his life. He also developed a close friendship with a fellow player named Cal "Muck Farm" Danilo, who falls for one of Anna's closet friends. The two couple become lifelong friends. Big Joe is brought up for the '46 World Series against the Saint Louis Cardinals as the Red Sox ace-in-the-hole pinch hitter. Big Joe's Irish father, Micheal Flynn is a Boston firefighter and Democrat Party official and friend of Mayor James Michael Curley. His mother, Caterina Collissimo is a tall, ravishingly beautiful girl from Boston's North End. Their past and present lives are propitiously woven into the story. This is a story of a well respected and highly talented young man whose torch was about to light up the world - THEN TRAGEDY STRUCK.
