About the Book

Från Kiruna emigrerade ca 1000 personer under åren 1908-1912. Varför emigrerade man? Lågkonjunkturen svepte in över kontinenten och nådde Sverige i dess spår följde lockouter av arbetare, svartlistningar och arbetslöshet. Därför blev utvandringen till bl.a. Brasilien ett faktum. Många vedermödor, tragik och äventyr mötte svenskarna i Brasilien, varför många sökte sig till Argentina. I boken får man följa Ida-Maria och hennes familj och möta många av svenskarnas öden. Hur livet gestaltade sig i Kiruna under åren 1907 till strejkåret 1909. Resan från Sverige till Brasilien. Hur det var att leva där, flytten till Argentina och hur livet gestaltade sig där. Resan hem år 1913, på konsulatets bekostnad. Hur det var att komma hem och bli beskylld för att ha lockat Kirunabor till Brasiliens helvete. I Brasilien slog sig familjen ned i Nukleo Uraguay dagens Porto Lusena i provinsen Rio Grande do Sol. Några svenskar stannade i Erchim, Catalina och Guarany. Även där gick man ett hårt liv till mötes. Svenska staten erbjöd de hårt drabbade svenskarna hemresa på konsulatets bekostnad efter Axel Paulins utredning av svenskarnas benägenhet och möjligheter att leva i Brasilien. Detta tack vare att Kiruna-emigranterna lät höra sin röst och bl.a. skrev till statsminister K. Staaf, om sin svåra benägenhet efter att inte blivit trodda av provinsregeringen i Rio Grande do Sol. I stället fick de smaka på Clarimundo de Almedia dia Santos skräckvälde.
About the Author: Pensionerad sjuksköterska född och uppvuxen i Boden, gift, har två barn fem barnbarn och ett barnbarnsbarn. Hennes farföräldrar emigrerade till Brasilien år 1909. Efter pensioneringen började hon forska om Brasilien emigrationen, på nätet, i Riksarkivet och Norrbottens minne. Hon renskrev sin fars memoarer. I hennes minne fanns farmoderns många berättelser. Hon fick frågan, varför skriver du inte en bok om din farmor? Efter ytterligare forskning tog det ca tre år innan boken började att ta form.
