About the Book

Bolivar's heroic achievements are a product of his personal nature and character, traits that made him a legend even after his death. His obsession for glory perhaps represented the most important aspect of his life. This book starts with the early education of Bolivar and the shaping of his personality, as well as the events that helped influence his distinct nature: relations with teachers, with women such as his wife Maria Teresa and Manuelita Saenz, and with other great men of his period. It goes on to describe his vision for the Americas, his independence yearnings, and his growth as a military officer and politician. For this part, the book examines the alliances and conflicts that played a role in his integration project, the battles through which he achieved great glory, and the relationships that left an impression in his adult life. The work concludes by analyzing the ongoing influence of Bolivar in the modern world.
