About the Book

Bridge is a card game that requires four players to take turns in two opposing partnerships. When playing, a standard deck of 52 cards is utilized. Bridge is an exceptionally strategic card game that requires companions to engage in communication, bidding, and card play.
Four phases comprise the fundamental structure of Bridge: dealing the cards, bidding, playing the hand, and scoring. An succinct outline of each phase follows:
- Dealing: The dealer distributes the complete deck of playing cards to each participant, typically in batches of thirteen cards.
- Bidding: During this stage, participants indicate the number of tricks they are willing to concede in exchange for a specified trump suit or by playing the hand devoid of any trump suit (referred to as "no trump"). The bidding process consists of a sequence of proposals, in which each participant expresses their preference for the trump suit or "no trump" and the number of tricks they believe they are capable of acquiring.
Bidding additionally entails companion communication in which they attempt to exchange information regarding the strength and distribution of their hands.
- Hand Play: The declarer is the player whose bid was successful, while their companion assumes the role of the dummy. The declarer's objective during the bidding phase is to fulfill the contract by gaining the specified number of tricks.
By winning tactics, the defenders attempt to impede the declarer from fulfilling the contract. When practicable, players are required to follow suit (play a card of the same suit led by the player who played first). Unless a trump card is played, the highest-ranking card in the led suit wins the trick; in that case, the highest-ranking trump card wins the trick.
- Scoring: Following the completion of all tricks, a comparison is made between the number of tricks achieved by each team and the contract proposed. In accordance with whether the contract was met, exceeded, or failed to be fulfilled, points are allocated. The intricate scoring system in bridge incorporates the specific contract bid and the number of tricks gained.
Bridge requires communication, strategy, and talent. The game demands that participants evaluate their hands, place precise bets in accordance with that evaluation, and execute the hand efficiently in collaboration with a comrade. Bridge, renowned for its intricacy and profundity, commands a dedicated fan base and is frequently engaged in competitive play across diverse tiers, spanning informal social gatherings to global tournaments.
