\"Im Kampfe um die Eroberung der Luft haben wir zwei hervorragende Fälle dafür gehabt, wie sich die Bahnbrecher nur mühselig zu Anerkennung durchzuringen vermögen. Wir haben aber hier gleichzeitig ein seltenes Beispiel, wie zwei Männer noch bei Lebzeiten die grösste Anerkennung ihrer Zeitgenossen gefunden haben. Der Gedanke an die Eroberung der Luft ist so bestechend, dass er in den weitesten Schichten der Völker ganz aussergewöhnlichen Anteil findet. Bislang beherrschte der Mensch nur zwei Dimensionen. Jetzt hat er auch begonnen, sich die dritte Dimension, die Luft, zu erobern. Zeppelin und Wright sind die Könige der Luft. Ihnen beiden ist es zu danken, dass wir anfangen, die Luft sowohl mit Fahrzeugen, \"leichter als die Luft\", als auch mit solchen, die \"schwerer als die Luft\" sind, zu beherrschen. Beide haben lange arbeiten müssen, bis sie der Welt die Richtigkeit ihres Gedankenfluges beweisen konnten. Beide sind sie viel geschmäht und mit Schmutz beworfen worden. Der Name Zeppelin ist heute nicht nur dem deutschen Volke bekannt, er hat überall ausgezeichneten Klang. Ueberall widmet man dem greisen Forscher eine Verehrung, wie man sie den grössten Helden aller Zeiten kaum entgegengebracht hat. Auch an Wright haben wir Europäer viel gesündigt. Man ging sogar soweit, die beiden Brüder, die bereits im Jahre 1905 die grössten Erfolge erzielt hatten, in Umprägung des Wortes \"die fliegenden Brüder\"â "\"die lügenden Brüder\" zu nennen.\" [...] Die Brüder Wilbur und Orville Wright waren US-amerikanische Pioniere des Flugzeugbaus um 1900. Sie waren fasziniert von den großen Luftfahrern Mouillard und Lilienthal und wendeten auf deren Thesen basierend zum ersten Mal das Prinzip \"schwerer als Luft\" an, in dem sie kontrolliert gesteuerten Motorflüge durchführten. Das vorliegende Buch erzählt aber nicht nur die Erfolgsgeschichte der Brüder Wright, sondern geht darüber hinaus und bezieht ebenso private und zeitgenössische Aspekte in seine Betrachtungen ein.
