About the Book

The author's personal experience as he built and ran a half billion dollar business in China serves as the background for this page turner. It describes both the trials and tribulations of living there and the rewards of successfully adapting and navigating through the intricacies of the Chinese culture. The book is written in an entertaining story format. It provides deep insights into Chinese culture that are brought to life through the use of simple Vignettes of his and his family's experiences and day to day living in China. Those vignettes provide in-depth insights that help explain how the Chinese view and approach life, business and each other and, most important, it helps provide an understanding of what it takes for foreigners to survive and thrive there. China Business is a must read for anyone doing business or planning to do business in China. It provides a little something for everyone. - A business person interested in doing business in China can learn the essentials of Chinese culture and the trials and tribulations he or she will likely face there. Within that, the author describes how he worked through those challenges and resolved problems that were uniquely Chinese. - The book describes how to build, deploy and successfully deliver a strategy utilizing systems to compensate for lack of business experience. Anyone interested in building a team or developing and executing a strategy can learn how the author led a team of new university graduates with absolutely no business experience to build the business and grow it by 1,200% in three years. - The concepts covered around building teams, developing and delivering a robust business strategy are not unique to doing business in China but can be useful to any business anywhere.- For an expatriate family, the book provides insights into day to day experiences and covers a wide range of cultural issues that foreigners need to be aware of and will likely experience in some way, shape or form. - The book provides perspective about life in China with interesting anecdotes about how expatriates can make the best of their experience and succeed in such assignments. - Finally, for everyone else, this book provides an easy read that is both interesting and intellectually stimulating. It offers a different type of read than the usual.
