Callers are people empowered by Essence, a powerful form of natural energy born deep within the planet of Eodiena. This allows Callers to possess abilities reflective of the very forces of nature, itself. The Selvari can manipulate Plants. The Dikaran summon Beast constructs, The Atmosians conjure Storms, and The At'asaai open Gates in space-time. These Callers make up roughly one third of the population, yet most societies are built around them. All the world knows their names.
There are, however, some Caller types whose names most do not know. And, those few who do, do not speak them, and do not want them alive.
Mira Holt is among those types.
In Emergence, we follow the path of Mira Holt, a young caller whose very existence is a criminal offense, in this age. Forced to live in relative secrecy, she learns to hide who and what she is, isolating herself from all but the rare few who accept her. However, when a chance encounter simultaneously endangers her safety and excites her curiosity, she's forced to leave the life she knows and venture off in search of her place in the world.
Accompanied by a group of travellers who each have their own regrets and agendas, Mira must voyage into foreign lands to hone her skills and reclaim her life. Her travels, however, see her cross paths with people who either hate her, fear her, want to use her, or don't even believe she's real. But, Mira cannot afford to turn back. For, with her destiny before her, a looming threat behind her, and a secret desire burning within her, she must learn to embrace the one thing she's always denied being:
The Star Caller.
