About the Author: I live every day governed by what is in this book. The subjects of health, fitness and maintaining a moderate weight are an integral part of my life. Being relatively healthy, relatively fit, and not being overweight allows me to continue the activities I enjoy, even into my 40's and beyond. It wasn't always that way: There was a time I became overweight, and it was an eye opener! While serving in the United States Marine Corps, I was stationed aboard a Navy ship for 7 months that had me eating some good food (not everyone thought so) and lots of it. I gained weight due to the combination of overeating and under activity. Even though I'd been thin my entire life, just a few months in a new setting had made a quick change to my weight. My activities were pretty much halted during this time because of the confined space. What a surprise it was to me when on shore leave I was buying new pants two sizes larger! During this time at sea I began my journey of learning about the human body. It started with lifting weights and reading various health and fitness magazines, which eventually led to college studies in Anatomy and Physiology and becoming a Certified Personal Trainer. In addition to my studies, I spent time watching people and asking about their eating and exercise habits and noticed what affect that had on their bodies. I paid attention to the details and watched what happens to my body when I exercise and eat, and learned to apply it all to my daily routine to achieve what I wanted to. I questioned every piece of information, researched and tested it myself if possible and quickly discarded the bogus stuff. Once I got rid of the junk, I realized it's really very simple. After losing that weight and while learning about the human body I continued lifting weights to purposefully gain 20 pounds of muscle over a couple of years. Gaining that weight was extremely difficult and time consuming, taking lots of effort because it requires not only regular weight lifting, but eating many, many more calories than I was used to. I learned an awful lot along the way. The information in this book is broken down to give you a greater understanding of how and why weight is gained or lost, in an easy to follow manner.
