The Canine Chronicles are a series of books geared to help shape children's views of themselves and how they relate to others around them. The inspiration for writing these books came from my late uncle, Michael Landon who was well known for his writing and acting. His television shows encouraged people to treat each other with respect and dignity, and not with hatred or judgment. I want to follow in his footsteps and help the children of the world become more loving and caring for one another. Book 1: Shih Tzu P.D. is about a small dog named Chanel who shows that she can do everything the bigger dogs can do. She proves that size does not matter if you put your mind to something, anything is possible. Each of the upcoming books will teach other vital lessons such as not bullying, not being mean just because someone is different from you and forgiveness. In this book, you will meet Timmy, Chanel's best friend and companion. You will also meet the dogs that both belittle but also rally for Chanel. The basis for this story comes from a joke I played on my mother with my real life Chanel years ago when Chanel was still with me. I realized if I could convince my mother that my Shih Tzu got into the K-9 police department, I probably needed to write this down. This story shows courage in the face of diversity, and I believe our children need to learn more about relating to each other and themselves, especially during our current times.
About the Author: I have a Doctorate in Chiropractic as well as a certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have many published articles on various websites in the health and wellness area. I also have a first-degree black belt in Hapkido. My real passion is helping others through my writing. I believe that learning and improving who you are as an individual and how you relate to others can benefit not only yourself but the world around you. Growing up I never really appreciated what I was learning along the way. As I grew older, I realized that learning helps you improve and can also help others. I have learned a lot from my dogs, things like patience and unconditional love. My first dog, Chanel lived to be almost 18 years old. She helped me through many challenging times including the death of my mother. When it was time for Chanel to leave my side, I somehow managed to muster up the courage and strength through God to do the right thing. Chanel passed away in my arms on July 12, 2012. I had experienced death before, but this was much different. My heart broke, and it was excruciating. I had a shrine for Chanel next to my bed for many years, then one day I decided the best way to honor her life was to give back. I arranged a fundraiser for a nearby animal shelter and raised hundreds of dollars. A friend helped me go out and buy the needed items including beds, blankets and of course treats. The day we brought everything to the shelter, I included the shrine for Chanel. It was tough to let go, but it was the right thing to do. Chanel's bed and blankets would now go to a shelter dog in need, and I knew she would want that. Not long after that, I rescued another Shih Tzu, and his name is Dior. He too has already proven to be my best friend and my protector. I am truly blessed to have been shown such love and companionship throughout my years. I continually learn new things from Dior including how to laugh at myself.
