About the Book

The Caregiver's Training Program gives you practical, immediately useful tactics for caring for your aging parent. This book provides the step by step instruction you need to understand what to do, who to call and how to find help when you need it. With the staggering increase in the population of those age 65 and older, the fastest growing segment of the U.S. workforce will be retirement age by the year 2014. Millions of Americans will take on the responsibility of caring for an aging parent or relative, working as unpaid, untrained caregivers. As our nation ages, the need for senior caregivers will become as common as the need for child care. The Caregiver's Training Program is written for the sandwich generation - those who find themselves caring for their parents, as well as for their own younger families. Topics you'll need to fully understand are covered in detail and an outline for creating an effective organizational strategy to manage the duties of caregiving make this book an invaluable resource. Many of the forms for organizing your resources that are mentioned in the book may be downloaded for free at www.caregiverstrainingprogram.com. Written by Melissa Sprouse Browne, owner of Seniors First Home Care, The Caregiver's Training Program addresses the common issues you'll encounter, including how to handle a parent with Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson Disease, breathing disorders, mobility issues, stroke, congestive heart failure and more. You'll learn what documents are required to manage your parent's affairs and understand common end-of-life orders such as a Health Care Power of Attorney, a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) Order, and what's required to engage a Hospice organization. Use The Caregiver's Training Program to guide your day to day activities while planning for the future of your parent's care.
About the Author: Melissa Sprouse Browne is a high energy executive who carries several business cards and juggles multiple successful business ventures. She is the President and Founder of Seniors First Home Care, a family owned company providing excellent care to the elderly in both residential and institutional settings. Her other companies include: Real Estate School of South Carolina and South Carolina Realty (which are co-owned with her husband Chip Browne), The Marketing Division, Inc. and The CE School. Melissa has always had a special place in her heart for seniors. "I remember thinking when I was a child how lucky I was because my parents were older. My father was fifty five years old when I was born, so my parents were a bit older than most of my peers. It was a blessing to have the privilege of wonderful parents who taught me so much and set an incredible example for me. And, I hope, I turned out to be a blessing for them, as I had the honor of caring for them in the last years of their lives," she shares. Her involvement in the field of senior issues gives her a unique perspective on the challenges we all face when dealing with aging parents who need care. She's volunteered for well over a decade with the Meals on Wheels organization in her city, directed their major fundraiser for multiple years, and currently serves on their Board of Directors. Melissa was chosen as one of the top "20 Under 40" business leaders in central South Carolina by The State Newspaper in 2009.
