El carlismo es origen de variadas paradojas. Una de ellas consiste en el contrasentido de que un movimiento sociopolitico con dos siglos de existencia, haya llegado a ser practicamente irrelevante, no solo en los medios de comunicacion, esclavos de variados intereses, sino tambien en el mundo de la historiografia. Sabido es que la historia oficial la escriben los vencedores de los conflictos, asi ha solido suceder en el caso del carlismo, excepto con la guerra civil de 1936-1939, que ha sido escrita por vencedores y vencidos unidos tacticamente a traves de la llamada “transicion”. Se da la circunstancia de que los carlistas han salido vencidos de todas sus sublevaciones y, paradoja sobre paradoja, cuando quedaron en el bando de los vencedores, en 1939, aquello derivo en una derrota mas. Todas estas circunstancias influyen en que la vision de la ciudadania acerca del carlismo este mayoritariamente alejada de la realidad o sea, en muchos casos, inexistente. Sin embargo, conocer la trayectoria del carlismo a lo largo de su existencia puede ser un medio para obtener un juicio acerca de los errores y los callejones sin salida de la politica hispana contemporanea. Existe, naturalmente, un relato historico del carlismo mas o menos alejado de la historiografia academica, pero ademas se constata, entre quienes aun se consideran carlistas y sus entornos, mas amplios de lo que se suele creer, una memoria que va mas alla de los frios datos de la historia, una memoria que revela que el carlismo ha mantenido de manera constante una actitud disidente ante una evolucion social y politica que se manifestaba como contraria a los intereses de aquellos colectivos que se negaban a abandonar unos usos y costumbres, unos modos de vida, unas creencias que, acaso demasiado genericamente, conocian como tradicion. Actitud disidente con las injusticias que padecian, provenientes de la nueva situacion impuesta por el liberalismo y sus epigonos, a veces derivada en enfrentamientos entre los mismos carlistas. El conocimiento es radicalmente, en su sentido etimologico de ir a las raices, fundamental para entender un fenomeno aun vigente como el carlismo. Eso es los que hemos intentado transmitir en estas paginas.
