About the Book

A hippie chick named Cassandra Stevens craves adventure one wet Wednesday night in October of 1969. She finds herself at a bar called The Childe Harold on Dupont Circle. She makes the acquaintance of a Korean War vet named Harry Shields who works as a P.I. He suffers from shell shock and she immerses herself into his troubled life to help him fight the war that still rages within. It continues to lure him back to combat and together they battle his internal terrors. Their physical attraction is so intense that after four dates they're engaged. But an unseen force begins attacking them from the outside. These events are random and seemingly unprovoked, but clearly have the intent to kill. Not all terrors are irrational, and it takes the skills of a GI P.I. to uncover and neutralize the cause of this deadly threat. Meriwether Shipley has created a tale of mystery and romance centered around iconic Dupont Circle in the turbulent 1960's. This was a time when Nixon was a dirty word and half a million people joined forces to march on the city to protest the war in Vietnam. Peace!
About the Author: Meriwether Shipley writes what she knows. Her accounts of Washington, DC, in the late sixties are from her own experience growing up there. She was an eye witness to much of the upheaval that rocked the city from the riots through to the anti-war march that drew half a million participants, adding a layer of historical truth to this fictional tale. She has been a feature writer and a journalist, and with her husband, poet Jack Peachum, has acted, directed and produced for both stage and screen.
