It's usually not until high school, or later, that most young people learn about various world religions. But, really, isn't this something we should be teaching our children much earlier?
There are over four thousand religions in the world, and, from the moment we're born, we immediately begin encountering people from various, diverse cultures and belief systems-and, eventually, we all end up sitting alongside each other in the same classrooms, movie theaters, and other public places. The sooner we learn about these other religions, the sooner we can understand how their followers live life, which will allow us to embrace the rest of the world around us and, hopefully, steer clear of the conflict and intolerance that have harmed humankind throughout history.
The Celebration Series is a set of children's books, each exploring a different religion that educates children four and older about the similarities and differences between world religions, so that they can enhance their world view and prepare to become active members of our global society.
This title, The Celebration Series Presents: Celebrating Christianity, introduces young readers to Christianity specifically, providing them with an unbiased description of Christian beliefs, practices, and traditions that shows how Christianity, like all religions, is special in its own way.
About the Author: Alison K. Smith works as a pension consultant for companies in the New York City tri-state region and is active in her local Connecticut community. She holds a bachelor's degree from James Madison University, an MBA and an MS in management from Florida State University, and has served as the leader of various mothers' groups.
A mother of two and godmother of four, Smith is an advocate for raising globally aware children, who strived to instill respect for all world religions, cultures, and belief systems in her own children, beginning in early childhood. Having connected with thousands of parents through her affiliations, she realized that they, too, had the need and desire to increase their children's social awareness. With this in mind, Smith developed The Celebration Series, each book of which exposes children to the fundamentals of a different world faith, teaching them how each is important, unique, and special.
