About the Book

Après la publication de son premier roman et compte tenu des répercussions qu'il a générées, l'auteur a poursuivi l'histoire avec Le chant de l'hirondelle, une oeuvre qui, bien qu'elle reprenne une partie du roman précédent, a sa propre empreinte.

L'histoire se déroule à une époque de révolutions, de révoltes et de luttes internationales. Et au milieu de ce scénario, dans une Argentine convulsée et secouée par une violence politique extrême, celle des années 50, une femme tente de survivre non seulement à une réalité marquée par la douleur et la peur d'un pays de plus en plus complexe, mais aussi au fardeau et à la monotonie d'un mariage malheureux et d'une vie vide et sans but.

La seule solution possible est de partir à la recherche de "son but" et il le trouvera dans une révolution qui, bien qu'elle ne lui appartienne pas, lui donnera le sens auquel il aspire.

C'est précisément ce chemin qui la mènera à travers les germes de la révolution cubaine en compagnie du "Che" et de Fidel Castro.

Contexte historique

Un groupe de jeunes révolutionnaires, se faisant appeler la "Génération du centenaire" et dirigé par Fidel Castro, déterminé à renverser Fulgencio Batista (dictateur de facto entre 1952 et 1959 à Cuba), a tenté de s'emparer de la caserne Moncada et de la caserne Carlos Manuel de Céspedes en 1953, mais a échoué dans sa tentative. Batista parvient à mettre un terme à cette révolte, les juge et les envoie en prison. Après avoir été privés de liberté pendant près de deux ans, Fidel Castro et ses camarades ont été libérés grâce à une amnistie. Ils ont rapidement formé le M-26-7, un mouvement visant à renverser le dictateur. Ils se rendent au Mexique pour se réorganiser et établir des liens avec des alliés favorables à la cause. En 1956, avec un groupe de guérilleros dont Ernesto Guevara, ils embarquent sur le Granma qui s'échoue dans les mangroves de Playa Las Coloradas, à Cuba. Désorientés et dispersés, ils n'ont pas pu mettre immédiatement leurs plans à exécution et ont dû se réfugier dans la Sierra Maestra. C'est là que Le chant de l'hirondelle atteindra son point culminant et un dénouement totalement inattendu.
