About the Book

Characterisation Methods in Inorganic Chemistry provides a fresh alternative to the existing theoretical and descriptive inorganic chemistry texts by adopting a techniques-based approach and providing problem-solving opportunities to show how analytical methods are used to help us characterise inorganic compounds.
The text covers the full range of analytical techniques employed by inorganic chemists, emphasizing those in most frequent use: NMR, diffraction, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and IR. The additional coverage on other techniques allows readers to study these less widely used methods when relevant to their specific course material.
Each chapter follows a clear, structured format, which begins with a brief introduction to the technique and basic theory behind it before moving on to data collection and analysis, typical data and interpretation, with numerous worked examples, self- tests and problems.

About the Author:
Mark T. Weller, Professor of Energy Materials, University of Bath, Nigel A. Young, Senior Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry, University of Hull

Mark Weller is Professor of Chemistry at the University of Bath. His research interests cover a wide range of synthetic inorganic chemistry and characterisation methods. He is the author of over 250 primary literature publications and has taught both inorganic chemistry and physical chemistry methods at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for 25 years covering a wide range of topics in materials chemistry, crystallography and analytical techniques. He is a co-author of OUP's Inorganic Chemistry, now in its sixth edition.

Nigel Young is Senior Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Hull. His research interests include matrix isolation techniques to stabilise and characterise highly reactive and unstable species and application of X-ray absorption spectrosocpy to structural problems within inorganic and materials chemistry. He teaches computational chemistry, quantum mechanics, symmetry, group theory, inorganic spectroscopy and bonding.
