Ce livre donne un aperçu sur les recherches de l'historien allemand Heribert Illig, qui en 1996 a boulerversé le monde scientifique de son pays avec la publication de son livre "Le Moyen-Âge inventé". En partant de considérations générales sur la chronologie de l'Égypte, de la Mésopotamie et de la Préhistoire, Illig reproche aux historiens de se référer jusqu'à nos jours au schéma temporel fixé par la bible et de combler les lacunes existantes par l'invention de peuplades entières et de leurs dynasties, comme p. ex. les Sumériens. Selon Illig, ce fut le cas également en l'Europe occidentale pour l'époque du Haut Moyen-Âge. Pour des raisons cmplexes qui sont développées dans ce livre, les rois et empereurs allemands du XIe siècle se sont créés avec l'aide de l'église catholique une descendance impériale avec Charlemagne comme personnage central. Illig définit ces périodes sombres ("dark ages") comme des périodes sans évidences archéologiques (traces de vie, bâtiments, tombes, lieux de culte, places fortifiées etc.). En effet, des centaines de monastères, résidences royales, églises et forteresses construites apparamment par Charlemagne en France et en Allemagne, il ne subsiste aucune trace.
About the Author: Robert Soisson est né le 7 novembre 1950 au Grand-Dûché de Luxembourg. Après son bac, il a fait des études de psychologie à l'université de Heidelberg en Allemagne. Il a travaillé comme psychologue diplômé dans l'enseignement primaire et secondaire au Luxembourg. Parallèlement, il s'est engagé dans de nombreuses organisations non-gouvernementales nationales et internationales pour la défense des droits de l'enfant et l'intégration scolaire des enfants handicapés. Il a écrit de nombreux articles dans la presse locale spécialisée. Depuis 12 ans, Robert Soisson suit attentivement les travaux de l'historien allemand Heribert Illig et de son équipe de chercheurs autour da la revue "Zeitensprünge". Convaincu du bien-fondé des théories de Heribert Illig, il s'est proposé de les faire connaitre à un public francophone. Robert Soisson est marié, père de deux enfants adultes et vit au Luxembourg.
