About the Book

Charlie is a little blue spider who lives in Australia. There isn't much to do in Australia, it's always too hot and all Charlie is doing is lying on the couch and watching TV. He is bored every day. Until one day he sees a program on TV about another place in the world. A place where beautiful flowers bloom, where there are high towers and where everyone eats a lot of chocolate. Charlie looks surprised at all those beautiful places. He wants to go there too! But how? Spiders can't just travel to another country.

Charlie decides to crawl into a big suitcase that travels to Europe, that's the name of the continent he's going to, Europe. When, after an eternity, the suitcase finally opens up again, Charly enters a whole new world where he meets a lot of new friends, such as Peter the trembling spider who shows him the tulips and windmills in the Netherlands.

Markie the maze spider who shows Charlie the Atomium in Belgium, a huge work of art. In Germany he meets Hein the jumping spider who can't even keep up with Charlie so fast he jumps from left to right and in Switzerland Aunt Lina is already waiting for him with mountains of chocolate.

But in Rome Charlie is getting tired of all that travelling. He left behind all his new friends. He is sad and feels lonely. At the Trévi fountain, Charlie meets Mario who tells him about the coin and the wish. Charlie doesn't believe him but throws his last coin in the fountain before traveling on to France.

What Charlie never expected happened in Paris. He meets the beautiful Charlotte in Paris with whom he falls head over heels in love. Together, the two eventually travel back to Australia and they no longer live a boring spider life.

The books by the author, Mireille van Yperen, are based on her experience as a mother of a child with ADHD and a child with autism. The challenges that came with this resulted in a lot of creativity in daily care and upbringing.
In addition to Charlie's first adventure, Mireille van Yperen has also written the books Pups de Caterpillar and the secret of the magical magic bean, Ralfje the sleepless calf and OOPS, a funny story about the hiccups that went in the wrong direction.
