Blackthorn Part Three, Chloe's Wars.
Me, a Queen! Well, Crown Princess.
Fine, but there are going to be some changes around here. First and foremost, I'm going to give the common people a voice. I'm going to get the great and the good - read the rich and the powerful - to actually pay for what they use. Then I'm going to do something about the laws that let the nobles rob us blind, but takes the hand off the man stealing bread to feed his family.
Lots of Big Ideas, but reality hits hard.
First, I need to know what the laws are. Second, I need to build a power base of the nobles and merchants I intend to tax. Third, I have to keep the people happy and let them know that my new position isn't going to change me.
This isn't easy. No, it's an all-out war on many fronts.
So I wasn't surprised when the Assassins came. Someone has put a price on my head, and I need to figure out who before I become Five Rivers' most beloved, dead Monarch. Even worse, if I don't win my other wars, I will become little more than a figurehead for the rich and powerful.
So many wars, and I may not be able to win all of them... or any of them.
All hail Queen Chloe Blackthorn, first of her name!
Gone but not forgotten!
