About the Book

Today's career woman who starts a family faces a TOUGH decision when it comes to going back to her job after her baby is born. She is more established and successful in her career than first-time mothers in the past and, while she planned to return to the career she loves after her maternity leave, the precious new baby in her arms is giving her second thoughts. Because time is short and emotions are strong, this is the toughest decision of her life and it is difficult to think clearly about whether to stay home, work part time, or continue to work full time with her new baby. That's where Choosing Whether To Stay Home: A Career Woman's Guide Through The Decision To Stay Home With Her Baby comes to the rescue.

All of this, plus plenty of practical tips and advice, ensures that new mothers can be confident with and successful in their decisions.

About the Author: Before she and her husband decided to start a family, Susan never imagined in her wildest dreams that she would stay at home with their baby. She'd graduated at the top of her class with a Master of Science degree in computer science from the University of Colorado and thoroughly enjoyed a ten year career in software engineering. She loved her job, valued her friendships with her coworkers, and led her team of software engineers in developing medical software for use in brain surgery. Additionally, Susan brought home the primary income in her family and she and her husband valued the lifestyle and financial security that a two income household provided. With a fantastic career, financially secure family, and great friendships at work, Susan thought heading back to the office after her baby was born would be a piece of cake. But, like so many other professional career women, she found that the birth of a baby calls that assumption of returning to the office sharply into question. Susan found that halfway through her maternity leave she just couldn't imagine being happy taking her baby to day care every day, so she started the long struggle through the most difficult decision of her life to leave the job she loved, the income the she valued for financial security and independence, and the daily camaraderie of her coworkers. After deciding to take some time away from her career for a while to raise her baby, Susan connected with over one hundred other mothers and listened to all of the stories about their decisions to stay home or return to their jobs. She reached out to mothers through national on-line networks, such as Moms Like Me(R), where she led discussions on the decision whether to stay home. She joined the International MOMS Club(R) where she is a two term vice president of her local chapter and currently heads up the efforts for membership and recruiting. Susan lives outside of Denver, Colorado with her husband of seven years and their two year old son. She thoroughly enjoys the sunny Colorado weather and tries to get in as many hikes, days at the park, and bicycle rides as she can with her very busy toddler and looks forward to the day when the whole family can hit the slopes again for some skiing.
