About the Book

English summary: This is the best source for understanding the Byzantine empire during the thirteenth century. Georges Acropolites was the historian of the Empire of Nicaea. In this account, he accurately describes the many wars this empire waged against the Latins, Turks, Bulgarians, and a concurrent Greek state, the Despotate of Epirus. Acropolites serves as an eyewitness to many of the events he describes with clarity and simplicity. French text.
