It has been six hundred years since the Separation, when the lands of the three races-the Kain, Ela, and Drykans-were separated by gigantic ravines. The high god, Kaidian, created the rift to stop the races from tearing each other to pieces. To keep the peace, the gods appointed the Guardians, immortal beings elected to protect the races from their own greed and bloodlust. For the humanlike race of Kain, four were called.
The beautiful orphan Alandra was transformed into the Keeper of the Bow. Malthius became the Keeper of the Hammer, Sadja became the Keeper of the Sword, and Kale, a naïve young farmhand, became the Keeper of the Staff.
The four Keepers have spent six hundred years securing their lands, but darkness is gathering. The Drykan Guardians, the two great dragon generals, will once again ride to war against the race of Kain. The Keepers' only hope is to call on their allies, the Ela. To find the Ela and keep the land safe, they must make a great sacrifice. In this dark fantasy of courage, romance, family, loyalty, and honor, even immortals are not safe from the approaching evil.
