About the Book

​The textbook covers all aspects of anesthesiology, especially the practical management tools for different case scenarios in anesthesiology, critical care and resuscitation. About the Author:

Dr. Kapil Gupta (DNB, DA Anesthesiology, Fellow Transplant, Hepato-Biliary Diseases, Ambulatory and Regional Anesthesia) graduated from Delhi University, India. He is the Professor, Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, India. He has many peer-reviewed international publications and has delivered numerous faculty talks in various international meetings. Dr Gupta has been an examiner for MD, DA and DNB anesthesiology exams since 2019 as well PDCC examiner for liver transplant anesthesiology since 2021. He was appointed as a national expert in anesthesiology by the National Board of Examinations in 2021. Dr Gupta is presently in the executive scientific (guidelines) committees of Society of Ambulatory Anesthesiology, USA; Academy of Regional Anesthesia, India and the Indian College of Anesthesiology. He is an advanced trauma life support instructor in the USA.

Dr Gupta has done clinical fellowships in transplant anesthesiology, hepato-biliary diseases, regional anesthesiology and ambulatory anesthesiology from University of Toronto from 2016 to 2019. He has also done international fellowship in critical care from Sydney, Australia in 2014. He was awarded 'Best Fellow' award for clinical and academic excellence and teaching from University of Toronto in 2017. He received numerous 'Best Paper' awards in USA and India for his research papers. He has worked as a consultant, anesthesia at many institutes like JIPMER, Pondicherry, Medanta Medicity, Gurgaon and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi.

Dr. Nikki Sabharwal (DA, DNB Anesthesiology) is currently a Professor and Consultant at the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, India. She was head of the same department in 2019. Dr. Nikki has over 30 years of teaching experience at Safdarjung Hospital and has been a guide to postgraduate students of both MD and DNB anesthesia students since 2007. She is a recognized examiner for MD anesthesia at various Indian universities and also an examiner for DNB anesthesia. She has a special interest in emergency medicine, neuro-anesthesia and trauma. She has done a six month WHO fellowship in neuro-anesthesia from NIMHANS Bangalore, India and started administration of anesthesia for aneurysmal surgeries and awake craniotomies at Safdarjung Hospital. She has done a certificate course in hospital administration from NIHFW, New Delhi. She has also done the certificate course in acupuncture and moxibustion and started the Pain Clinic at Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi in 1988.

Dr Nikki has a special interest in teaching various life-saving skills and has been course director of ATLS - The Advanced Trauma Life Support course of the American College of Surgeons since 2009. She is a founder member and core faculty of 5-day skill-based National Emergency Life Saving Skills Training Programme (NELS) formulated for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in January 2015, for doctors manning the emergency department. She is an instructor of Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) programs of the American Heart Association and The Indian Resuscitation Council (IRC). She was responsible for starting the first training centre of IRC, The Comprehensive Resuscitation Training Centre (CRTC) in Delhi at Safdarjung Hospital in October 2021.

Dr Nikki has several publications in national and international journals and has contributed chapters in several books. She was elected President of The Indian Society of Anesthesia (ISA), Delhi Branch, in 2020. Dr. Nikki was honored with the proficiency award of ISA in recognition of her invaluable contribution and outstanding services to ISA, on 27th November 2021.

Prof. Ashok Kumar Saxena (MD, DA, FAMS, FICA), Professor and Head, Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine, University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi, and GTB Hospital, Delhi, India. He is the Past President of ISA North Zone (2018-2020) and the current Vice President of the Indian Society for Study of Pain. Dr Saxena has been the past chief executive editor of the Indian Journal of Pain (2008-12) and Past Hon. Secretary of ISSP (20012-15). He was Past President (2017-18) and Hon. Secretary of ISA Delhi Chapter in 2013-17.

Dr Saxena has 155 Publications in international and national peer-reviewed journals of repute. He has contributed 40 chapters to various books. He is a recipient of many awards. He was nominated as convener for the meeting of pain experts for 'consensus statement on Indian guidelines for the management of neuropathic pain in 2016-17 and 'consensus statement on the role of tricyclic antidepressants in chronic neuropathic pain in India' in 2014-15. He organized the first 'international symposium on chronic pelvic pain' in 2007.

Dr Saxena was nominated by the International Association for Study of Pain (IASP), USA, as a global member of the committee of committees' (COC) for 2014-2018 and a member of the grants committee 2019-21. He is a recipient of FAMS (Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences) in 2003. He was nominated in July 2016 to the 'Bureau of Indian Standards', New Delhi, as a subject expert.

Dr. Anjali Kochhar (MD, Anesthesiology) is Associate Professor, Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, India. She has worked at PGIMER, Chandigarh, UCMS, Delhi and HIMSR, Delhi. Dr Kochhar is associated with the American Heart Association (AHA) as an instructor in ACLS and BLS. She is a fellow critical care society (FCCS) accredited instructor in basic critical care courses. Dr Kochhar got training at AIIMS, Delhi, in essentials of palliative care. She is trained in simulation-based teaching by the Singapore Society of Simulation and is also accredited in simulation training by PEDISTARS India. She has got multiple national and international publications and has presented papers at national and international conferences (AAGBI in Ireland and Dubai). She is faculty for airway workshops, ACLS and postgraduate assemblies.

Dr. Deepa Kerketta Khurana (MD Anesthesia, MSc Palliative Medicine (Cardiff University, UK) pursuing, CCEPC) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, India. She is the current national body treasurer for IAPC (Indian Association of Palliative Care) and a national faculty for IAPC and ISA (Indian Society of Anesthesiology) academic wing.

Dr Khurana did her senior residency at AIIMS, New Delhi, and worked at Max Hospital Saket and Escorts Cardiac Heart Centre, Delhi. She has a special interest in palliative medicine and pain management. She has many publications in national and international journals and presented research papers at many international and national platforms. She is a commonwealth scholar and pursuing master's in palliative medicine from Cardiff University, UK.

Dr. Pratiti Choudhuri, MD, Anethesiology is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, India. She is an anesthesiologist, intensivist, and a good academician with extensive experience in the teaching of postgraduate students. She did her MBBS and MD in anesthesiology from Kolkata. Dr Choudhuri is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. Her area of interest is regional anesthesia, critical care and simulation-based medical teaching and training. She has several publications in various journals of national and international repute. She has contributed to the latest edition of a book titled 'Clinical Anesthesia' as an author ['Clinical Anesthesia', South Asian Edition, Barash PG, Cullen BF, Stoelting RK et al.
