About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Street Food is a unique trip through Southeast Asia.

A book of recipes, ingredients, techniques, and tricks, but also memories of street food: the compilation of experiences that chef Alex Zurdo had traveling through Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia for ten months.

Here you will find:

-a personal story, enjoyable, and relaxed. And, at the same time, rigorous and professional.

-more than 60 recipes collected on the ground- from housewives, teachers, friends- that transport us to the most diverse kitchens from the neighboring continent.

-a book with spectacular photos taken by the traveler himself.

I conceived the idea to write this book at a precise time and place, specifically in front of a beer in a bar on Dunlop Street in Singapore. It was 2006, and I had just returned from an infernal trip around Flores Island in Indonesia. I had been collecting recipes for three years during my trips through Asia, without knowing for sure what to do with them. Between sips, I thought about two things: that it would be good to put them together in a book and that, in reality, my knowledge of Southeast Asian cuisine was still limited. So, I decided to take a trip from Hanoi to Singapore, without hurrying and taking the necessary time to deepen my knowledge to be able to later write coherently on the theme.
