About the Book

Common Voice Uncommon Wisdom, written by Margaret Thalhuber, was initially a collection of journal entries, conversations, if you will, spanning over ten years, that the author had with her inner spirit and her intuition. The entries were coming from a place that did not originate from Margaret. She knew that what she was feeling was always a part of her creative process, part of the stories she wrote, but what was going on this time was different; what she was writing struck a vein in her that revealed a common kind of wisdom and love that was hers to share. Common Voice Uncommon Wisdom was a reflective process, an integration of what her heart was discovering and what her head thought it knew, and inward and outward reach. While writing, Margaret felt a pulse, a beat, a breath inside of her that she is excited to exchange with the reader. She hopes that Common Voice Uncommon Wisdom will accent the power of the reader's intuitive wisdom.
About the Author: Margaret's writing focuses on inter-personal, cultural and spiritual relationships. Typically, a short story writer, Common Voice Uncommon Wisdom is her first book of reflections. Born in 1946 in St. Paul, Minnesota, at the age of twelve, her sister gave her a journal book and she has been writing ever sense. When she was twenty-two, her writing was influenced by her position as Press Secretary for Mayor Thomas R. Byrne, St. Paul, Minnesota. During her tenure with the Mayor's Office, she gained a broad insight into community values and the civic perspective. In the 1970's, she was a VISTA volunteer living in Chicago working with abused and neglected children where her writing was impacted by her exposure to widespread racism and the depth of human suffering. After her time in Chicago, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where her love of the arts flourished while working as the Management Services Officer at the University of California, Department of Art. While living in California for over forty years, she immersed herself in the creative community there while writing, reading her writings and performing self-revelatory improvisation. Her short stories appear in Braided Water, an anthology of women's poetry and short stories. In 2004, she returned to St. Paul where she met Basil and Charlotte Brave Heart from Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Through their teachings, she came to more fully understand the sacred inter-relationship of all life. Basil and Charlotte's teachings are evident throughout Margaret's writings. Currently living in St. Paul, she continues to write and teach the Art of Journal Writing.
