Tous les humains se posent un jour ou l'autre la question de savoir d'où ils viennent et où ils vont. Si le second terme de la question ne fait pas de doute, le premier reste encore une énigme qui a suscité de nombreuses théories explicatives de la part des scientifiques du vivant. Quand on connaît un peu mieux le vivant, on se rend compte rapidement de sa complexité, mais surtout de sa grande intelligence, tant de conception que de construction. On peut alors accepter plus facilement l'idée d'un constructeur, bien qu'il soit à l'évidence invisible et muet. La mondialisation galopante, qui lisse les frontières, n'empêche pas les catastrophes de toute nature et les conflits meurtriers, qui néanmoins ne peuvent pas stopper la prolifération des êtres vivants, entretenue depuis toujours par une forme de frénésie copulatoire généralisée et programmée. Dans ce tourbillon en apparence déstructurant, il faut s'inventer des repères et des balises. C'est le but de ce petit livre d'une soirée, qui veut à la lumière des récentes découvertes de la science proposer des explications accessibles, d'une part des règles du jeu biologique et d'autre part de la façon de s'en servir au mieux pour arriver à se persuader que la vie est une merveilleuse aventure, dans laquelle nous sommes entièrement libres et responsables. L'interrelation science et religion fait partie du débat.
About the Author: Pierre Rabischong est né en 1932 à Nancy où il a effectué ses études médicales terminées en 1955. Il a étudié l'anthropologie à la Sorbonne sous la direction du Professeur Vallois. Spécialisé en neuropsychiatrie en 1958, il passe l'agrégation en 1961 et est nommé à la Faculté de Médecine de Montpellier où il devient Professeur titulaire de la Chaire d'Anatomie en 1964, biologiste des hôpitaux, chef du service d'explorations fonctionnelles de l'appareil moteur du CHU. En 1971, il obtient la création de l'Unité 103 de l'INSERM de recherches biomécaniques qu'il dirigera jusqu'en 1995. En 1981, il fonde le Centre Propara pour le traitement des lésions de la moelle épinière. Il est président et cofondateur en 1995 de l'ESEM (European Society for Engineering and Medicine), de l'ISCAS (International Society for Computer Aided Surgery) et en 1997 de la WABT (World Academy of Biomedical Technologies). Il coordonne en 1989 le projet EUREKA-CALIES et en 1996 le projet SUAW (Stand up and walk) du programme BIOMED II de la CEE. Il est actuellement Professeur Emérite et Doyen Honoraire de la Faculté de Médecine de Montpellier.
