About the Book

There are two types of smiles that you'll see in the world: Those smiles that are given by the happiness inside of you... and those smiles that are artificially forced upon your face by highly advanced technological contact lenses designed to completely reshape your brain. At least for 22-year-old Miles Carper, who has suffered every day from a slew of disorders that have controlled his life since he was a child. Unable to escape the voices or the weight of his problems building up around him, Miles is trapped in his own head, and will never find happiness on his own. That is, until he meets his personal flotation device: Alexander Stallion- who vows to never let his friend drown in the ocean of his mental problems, and he can do such a thing through a pair of contact lenses. A technological stride in the field of depression, the lenses are designed to completely take over the brain to calm the distressed into perfect, pure happiness. However, the price of happiness has no refunds, and can come at costs no one may expect. A lab rat trapped in his own experiment, Miles can find no way out of the cage he has built. Now Alex just wants to protect his friend no matter what happens. ...But how can he protect a murderer?
About the Author: "Daphne Millington? Why is her head always down?" I'm staring at my feet. I know when you see me, you think I'm ignoring the world. Perhaps I'm trying to seem smaller, keeping my head low so I won't be noticed. The consideration of right foot and left foot seem simple to anyone who doesn't proceed into the mindset of a girl who plans next what will come of her own world, the creations she's planned since a young age. I am not staring at my feet, trying not to be noticed. I am staring at my feet, plotting what advancement will become the next moment in which I will be noticed. I create because it is all I know. The left and the right are the breaths which form in the life of my characters. Kids my age are constantly absorbing the media, the thoughts, and the ideas that someone else created just for them. My shoelaces tell me simply that someday, I will be the voice that kids my age will listen to. And somewhere, a girl will lift her head.
