Este libro coordinado por los profesores Héctor Faúndez Ledezma y Rafael Badell Madrid y editado por la Academia de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, recoge todas las exposiciones que se hicieron sobre la controversia del Esequibo en el ciclo de coloquios realizados por la misma entre el 6 de mayo de 2021 y el 21 de abril de 2022, en los cuales intervinieron profesionales altamente calificados (historiadores, diplomáticos, internacionalistas, politólogos, economistas, ingenieros, geógrafos), venezolanos y extranjeros. En los mismos se analizaron los distintos ángulos y particularidades de esta controversia sobre el territorio Esequibo que se inició, entre Venezuela y el Reino Unido, originando el Laudo de Paris de 3 de octubre de 1899, mediante el cual se adjudicó a Gran Bretaña una superficie de 159.542 kilómetros cuadrados, territorio es mayor que la superficie conjunta de Suiza, Bélgica y los Países Bajos, e incluso mayor que la superficie conjunta de toda Inglaterra y Gales, y que ha continuado con Guyana a raíz del Acuerdo de Ginebra de 1966, sin que la misma hubiera podido solucionarse entre las partes. Se estudiaron también en los coloquios, las consecuencias de la demanda introducida por Guyana contra de Venezuela que el 29 de marzo de 2018, ante la Corte Internacional de Justicia para que dicho Tribunal confirme la validez y el carácter vinculante del laudo arbitral del 3 de octubre de 1899, relativo a la frontera entre la colonia de Guyana Británica y Venezuela, reafirmándose la necesidad de que habiendo la Corte resuelto sobre su propia competencia, Venezuela se hiciese parte lo que viene de ocurrir el 8 de junio de 2022.

En resumen los coloquios trataron sobre: 1. Introducción a la controversia y al papel que le ha correspondido jugar a la Academia en la defensa del territorio en disputa. 2. Sobre la formación de la República y al territorio venezolano en las distintas constituciones de Venezuela. 3. Antecedentes de esta controversia. 4. Examen del compromiso arbitral de 1897, de las reglas estipuladas por las partes, y de los títulos históricos respecto del territorio en disputa a que allí se hace referencia, y que debían ser considerados por el Tribunal arbitral. 5. El laudo arbitral del 3 de octubre de 1899 y el memorándum Mallet-Prevost. 6. El Acuerdo de Ginebra. 7. La demanda de Guyana, la competencia de la Corte Internacional de Justicia para conocer de ella, y las opciones de Venezuela. 8. La competencia de la Corte Internacional de Justicia para dictar medidas provisionales. 9. La competencia de la Corte Internacional de Justicia respecto de lo que ella llama "la cuestión conexa" con el arreglo definitivo de la controversia sobre la frontera entre Guyana y Venezuela. 10. la plataforma continental y la frontera marítima entre Guyana y Venezuela. 11. La nulidad o validez del laudo de París; y 12. Aspectos económicos, políticos y estratégicos que plantea esta controversia y conclusiones sobre los títulos históricos de Venezuela sobre el territorio en disputa, las irregularidades cometidas por el Tribunal arbitral, y las razones por las que el laudo es nulo.
