Die Sondierung der Deutungspotentiale der Kreuzestheologie richtet sich als Gesprachsangebot an Gegenwartsdiskurse, um zu klaren, wie und unter welchen Bedingungen sie heute sinnvoll sein kann: Kreuzestheologie wird zu phobischen Prolegomena medialer Theologie. Fur eine mediale Theologie wird ihr singulares tremendum et fascinosum entscheidend: das Kreuz als dunkle Unmittelbarkeit, als Ungrund einer Theologie von ganz unten, als Riss aller Deutungen, der umso mehr neue Deutungen provoziert. Das Kreuz als Riss markiert das Andere der Medien - und wird zu deren Offnung in Wort, Schrift und Bild vom Kreuz. Das Kreuz als Pathosformel und Metonymie fur den Gekreuzigten provoziert Phobos, Entsetzen und Flucht. Das Abjekt stosst ab; andernfalls ware das Kreuz bereits vergoldet in Erhohung und Verklarung. Aber der Phobos entwickelt ungeheure Bewegungsenergie fur Logos und Ethos: Deutungspotentiale mit ewigem Nachleben, in Krisenzeiten ganz besonders. Ublicherweise wird das Kreuz prastabilisiert durch allumfassende Deutungsmuster, die dem Kreuz seinen Sinn geben: Suhne, Trinitat und Souveranitat Gottes. Die Befremdungspotentiale des Kreuzes werden dadurch normalisiert und stillgestellt. Dem treten Labilisierungen und Radikalisierungen der Kreuzestheologie gegenuber. Wie sind die konstruktiven Deutungspotentiale der Kreuzestheologie auszufuhren? Wie kann von Gott kreuzestheologisch gedacht und gesprochen werden? Etwa, indem Gott pathisch gedeutet wird. Als letztes Refugium der Apathie erscheint der Geist meist unberuhrt von Kreuz und Tod. Nur ist doch gerade der Geist Medium der Pathe Gottes: seiner Leiden und Leidenschaften. Daher wird er als ein verwundeter Geist gedeutet, wenn er denn Geist Christi ist. Wie kritisch das Kreuz fur die Christologie werden kann, zeigt sich exemplarisch in Karfreitags- und Karsamstagstheologie. Auf diesem Hintergrund werden zwei Horizonterweiterungen des "Wortes vom Kreuz" entfaltet: Schrift vom Kreuz und Bild vom Kreuz. Verkorpert die Schrift das Kreuz im Sinn, so verkorpert das Bild das Kreuz vor Augen, in aller Sinnlichkeit des Sinns. Im Ruckblick werden Thesen vom Kreuz formuliert zur Orientierung des hier riskierten Versuchs, kreuzestheologisch Theologie zu treiben, um die Deutungspotentiale der Kreuzestheologie zu sondieren und zu entfalten.
