About the Book

Cornered presents Overgrown Garden, with the cabin-bound Margot bitten by a desire for freedom. And Cornered will likewise delve into the mind of a neurotic 438 as he works through Organ Grinder, his job processing sinners for a greater future. Along the way will be several more tales experienced by the cornered, some fading into memories and others unable to separate from their fate. Then again, can the end be avoided?

An original short story collection written and illustrated by Malady R. Cross. Partake in ten major narratives from different perspectives, including people, an alien, an android, and the dreamers among them.

Everything is subject to the bias of their narrowed vision.

Trilogy

Cornered: Overgrown Garden

Plants are fairly hardy, but hardly fair. They have no sense of morality. Eat, drink, and they don't sleep. They're always aware.

Cornered: Outer Galaxy

Traveling light-years away, surrounded by blackened space, the soundless journey may only be quiet to us. Others can hear the stars. They're wandering for their survival. But somehow, an emptiness yet engulfs the universe.

Cornered: Organ Grinder

A man is nearly late for work, but the walk is the least of his worries. There are things to be done; corporate ladders to climb; sins to be paid. Life is money.

Bridge

Cornered: Original Guest

Your best friend may be closer than you think, or perhaps not as close as you've hoped. If only you could be anywhere else but here.

Cornered: Overbearing Guardian

She loves you dearly. I hope you know that. You do, don't you?

Cornered: Ostentatious Gentleman

He arrives unexpectedly in a place so familiar, his eyes captivating as sea glass to a scavenger. Some wayward treasure to no one.

Sanguine

Cornered: Onerous Goat

I hope you're doing well. We haven't talked since the last day you left me, and I'm sure we won't meet again. Nothing lasts forever-I'll keep believing it doesn't.

Cornered: Obsolete Girl

She's real as the lines of code in her eyes. A lover by nature, worried within a shell. Hands cold, she discovers warmth from the motherboard to corrupted memory banks.

Cornered: Open Grave

Don't look before you jump; it always seems worse if you do. His life is wracked with longing for better days, but he wonders, had those days existed at all? The world against one is a somber place.

In One Glance

The life of a statue who wishes to understand the heart. She admires The Clouds.
