About the Book

March 18, 2006, at 13.00, the presenter of the news of a large chain announced on the screens that the Dean of humanity was a Japanese, 111 years old, but the Dean of the French people was a Corsican of 106 years, from a small village in the South of the Corsica. The man called Joseph Bonaventure. This information, which is slight for France, was no longer important to the island of beauty. The information stopped there, lasted only 30 seconds. But for the local television, it was an interesting information appropriate to deepen. The drafting of the regional television set up a team to investigate this very interesting topic. The first investigations were launched. We asked the regional archives and found a Joseph Bonaventure who lived in the small village of Granace. Contacts were tempted but all attempts remained dead letters. The subject was therefore left aside. But a young journalist obtained the authorization to continue the investigations. She took all the information gathered and deepens them. She found an interesting trail and went to the headquarters of the Association of the Corsican Small Landowners, which Joseph Bonaventure was a part. But she was nicely renewed. She insisted, but she was repressed and began to wonder why. Who were these owners? She axed his investigation on the members of this association and sick looking for, eventually find the list of its members. The journalist knew she stood an interesting topic. But he should be careful because she might have to be intimidated. Not to say threats. But the lure of the scoop was too strong. She presented the results of his investigations to his editor. But, rather than congratulate her, he explained the risks and asked him to stop his research. She refused, telling him that the original intent was to do a story on the Dean of the French people. The Chief threatened indirectly, saying that it would damage his career. She pretended to give in but stood firm on his positions. She continued his research, multiplying the investigations. She thought to could keep the way of approaching Joseph Bonaventure but those she was trying to contact manifested. One morning she found all the windows of his car broken. It was a first warning. Another day, she found her four flat tires. Second warning. But nothing helped. His determination was left intact. Two days later, his car disappeared. The next day, the police found his car burned. The threat seemed clear. He therefore needed act to not leave the initiative to those who sought to intimidate her. She was strong, too, and it took more than that to intimidate him. She held important information: the list of the members of the association of landowners. She selects two members and decided to get in touch with them. His determination eventually paid off and she managed to get an appointment with Joseph Bonaventure. This latter was in a nursing home and agreed to tell him the story of his family, the family Bonaventure, and the lives of his four brothers, mixed actors Corsicans who made the columns of the facts of many newspapers, since the beginning of the 20th century until beginning of the 21St century. It was the story of what is called Corsican Union.
