Unternehmen werden dabei vor neue Herausforderungen gestellt, um die Ansprüche der Kunden hinsichtlich des Preises, der Qualität, der Services und der Verfügbarkeit eines Produktes zu befriedigen. Dabei verfolgen einige Unternehmen die Strategie, ihre Fertigungstiefe zu reduzieren, um sich auf ihre ursprünglichen Kernkompetenzen konzentrieren zu können. In einer breit angelegten Forschung werden die Kriterien zur Lieferantenauswahl in Bezug auf ein C-Teile-Management bei kleinen und mittelständischen Unternehmen herausgearbeitet. Um die abhängigen Kriterien zu bestimmen, wird ein Abgleich wissenschaftlich fundierter Kriterien vorgenommen. Die Studien von DICKSON (1966), HARTING (1994) und JANKER (2008) beschäftigen sich eingehend mit dem Thema Lieferantenauswahl und Lieferantenbewertung und werden in dieser Arbeit als grundlegende Fachliteratur herangezogen. Durch dieses Vorgehen ergibt sich ein Kriterienkatalog mit den Hauptkriterien: Allgemeine Unternehmensdaten, monetäre Aspekte, qualitative Aspekte, Modalitäten der Lieferung, Services, Kommunikation und Zusammenarbeit, Innovationskraft und Nachhaltiges Wirtschaften. Da man davon ausgehen kann, dass nicht jedem Merkmal die gleiche Bedeutung zuteil wird, werden Rang-Werte gebildet. Anschließend werden die so aufbereiteten Kriterien analysiert und interpretiert. Die Ergebnisse der Arbeit zeigen, dass es bei diesen Kriterien keine spezifischen Unterschiede zwischen allgemeinen Lieferanten und C-Teile-Dienstleistern gibt.
