Es un privilegio escribir el prefacio de este libro de la reconocida poeta y narradora venezolana María Cristina Solaeche Galera, quien de nuevo nos sorprende con unos relatos que ejercen un hechizo sobre el lector. El primer cuento lleva por título "El mundo ceniciento de Marcelo". Trata sobre un pintor que a raíz de un accidente cerebro vascular, pierde la capacidad de ver los colores. La manera como la autora relata lo que siente alguien en el momento de sufrir un percance de esta naturaleza es notable, impresiona la descripción y el proceso de perplejidad vivido por el personaje. Luego de las vicisitudes que no voy a contar para que no se pierda el encanto de la lectura, transcribo un párrafo que deleita por la sorpresa que transmite: "...aprendió el artista plástico, a concebir el mundo hermoso en blanco, negro y las gradaciones entre ellos. Adquirió el dominio de la luminosidad de un mundo bruno, de una naturaleza nívea, de un firmamento grisáceo. Un universo ceniciento es ahora para él, un universo magnífico, enormemente soberbio, no es ya un cosmos irrealizable en sus telas, al contrario, es fantástico...".El libro lo integran 12 relatos que llevan por título "El mundo ceniciento de Marcelo", "Las llamadas", "Las sortijas de la transparencia", "Era una mariposa", "El milagro de Ersilia", "La rosa de Otilia", "El insomnio de Matías", "Una obra de aliento", "¿Así acaba todo?", "Hilda y el espejo", "El balido de una oveja" y "La silla de ruedas de Bernardo". María Cristina Solaeche Galera, nació en El Empedrado, Maracaibo, estado Zulia, Venezuela. Es poeta, ensayista y narradora. Es Licenciada en Educación y en Matemáticas, Magister en Educación Superior y en Matemática Pura, títulos obtenidos en La Universidad del Zulia. Profesora emérita de la Universidad del Zulia. Pertenece al Círculo de Escritores de Venezuela y al Movimiento Poético de Maracaibo. Ha publicado los siguientes poemarios: Un amor de miel y ajenjo, Poemas ásperos y oscuros, y El verano de los Tamarindos. El libro de relatos El cubo y lo gris. Treinta y cinco ensayos sobre poetas venezolanos fallecidos pertenecientes a la literatura de Venezuela. El libro Ismael Urdaneta: El poeta legionario. Por publicar los ensayos Emiliano Hernández: El poeta de los adioses, e Ida Gramcko Cortina: "Veré la blanca Flor y será mía, ¡Mía!".´La escritura certera de María Cristina Solaeche nos plantea historias apasionantes, que cumplen a cabalidad con las premisas obligatorias en un buen relato: nos convence de su veracidad, en un párrafo dibuja el carácter y la personalidad del personaje, sus obsesiones, temores y conflictos. Y el final siempre es sorprendente. Sus temas van desde el amor imposible, el sin sentido de la vida, la solidaridad y el sacrificio, un escritor que ya no puede escribir, un destino fatal, los sueños, la locura, los celos, la envidia, el perdón y el significado de la muerte.
