About the Book

Cultivating Reading and Phonics Skills is an instruction manual and reading program that combines phonics with phonological awareness, spelling, and handwriting activities.

This reading program is appropriate for

  • Beginning readers
  • Older students who are learning to read
  • Students reading below grade-level and struggling with decoding and/or reading fluency
  • Students who have dyslexia, ADHD, dysgraphia, orthographic processing challenges, and autism
  • English language learners.

What makes this reading program better than others?
  • Previous experience is not required with this method because teachers, tutors, and parents will learn along with the student(s). So, instructors do not have to be reading specialists to use this instruction manual. Phonics rules are explained using the most simplified manner.
  • This reading intervention can be used in Special Education classrooms, Gifted and Talented programs, tutoring programs, homeschool classrooms, and small groups in general education classrooms.
  • Current reading programs contain an overwhelming amount of content. This manual takes into consideration the time constraints and emotional needs of struggling students, parents, and teachers. This book contains the most essential information, strategies, and techniques that will have the most significant impact on your child(ren).
  • This method of teaching phonics does not conflict with other reading programs your student may be receiving. This phonics program can be provided simultaneously with other reading interventions.

Students are systematically introduced to phonics patterns with "Listen for the Sounds" activities and create their own deck of 3-D Flash Cards. Students and instructors link each phonic spelling pattern to its corresponding sound, keyword, and visual. Each spelling and handwriting activity in this book mirrors the phonic patterns students are learning to build their relationships with letters. This helps students and instructors distinguish similar and different sounds and letters and anchors phonics patterns to their corresponding sounds. This book teaches three blending techniques that help new readers blend the letter sounds to read words. You'll also learn how other engaging multisensory activities such as searching for and highlighting phonics patterns, a spelling phonic mapping technique, and more. This manual includes phonics stories that build character, self-esteem, confidence, and interest in reading.

The phonics storybooks with illustrations and 3-D visual aids are optional and sold separately.

  • Phonics Stories, Short Vowels - Level 1
  • Phonics Stories, Long Vowels - Level 2
  • Phonics Stories, The Other Vowel Sounds - Level 3
  • Phonics Stories, Advanced Long and Short Vowel Patterns - Level 4
